Josh and I are beginning to wonder where the time is going. . .It seems like yesterday when Sarah was born. We were living in Provo in a little 2 bedroom apartment surviving on less than $10,000.00 that year. My water broke in the middle of the night. Sarah was born in the middle of the day -- and our lives have never been the same.
Today, we want to brag about her a little bit, only because she is such a great example to us. Sarah was born a leader. She sat for the first time when she was just shy of 4 months old. She has excelled in so many things. She has always loved life. Josh and I have worried about her naive nature and been frustrated about her stubborn independence (You should be at our house when Sarah gets her hair done for the day). Some of you will remember how attached she was to her binky. One day, I had had enough. I took out the scissors, cut the pacifier in front of her. She took it out my hand, looked at it and chucked it at me. She never took another nap after that day -- at the age of 2. She fits the role of a first born really well -- a mother hen who wants to be in charge (and, until Abigail came along, was).

9 years later, we love to hear her laugh. We rejoice in her desire to learn. We appreciate the example she leaves with us -- everything is black and white for her -- she has a strong desire to do what is right.
We struggle to let go of her young innocence -- the other day she asked me if she could start shaving her legs -- After I closed my mouth in shock, I said, "Not yet." At the same time, we are excited to watch as she grows into young womanhood. We hope the best for her, as every parent does for their children. Happy 9th Birthday to Sarah.

Happy Birthday to Sarah. They really do grow up too fast.
I a not trying to be annoying but why can't she shave her legs? I refused too when they asked at that age and Stephen took them in the bathroom and showed them how. It really hasn't changed anything. They just had smooth legs. And honestly they do it three or four times and get bored and then they don't start again until they are about 12. Your Brother is a pretty smart guy. One thing he has taught me is to say yes as much as possible so when the answer is no it is more powerful. Just a thought.
I love your blog. It is adorable and I feel like I get a chance to know your family. I may start one. We will see.
Thanks for the comments. I wish more people would share their comments on here. It is a great way to stay in touch, and learn from one another.
I will think about your idea regarding shaving legs. I think it really boils down to me not ready to have her grow up yet. Stephen is probably right.
I would love to have everybody in the family start a blog. It would give a chance to see what really happens in your lives everyday.
Thanks Michelle
I was going to add that I was sad that I missed the chance to teach them. Kind of a Mom/daughter thing. Of course at our house all rolls are skewed. Obviously. I taught Mason to throw a football, so I guess it is a fair trade.
I remember when sarah was born and how excited we were to have another little granddaughter. She has grown into her own self, a beautiful little girl with a very sweet and helpful nature and strong opinions (just like her Mom).
