Do you know where your flashlight is?

Two nights ago, during a bad rain storm the power went out. It was 10:00 p.m. and Josh and I were in the middle of making strawberry freezer jam. We knew we couldn't just go to bed, we still had 2 bowls of strawberry puree with Pectin in them. We started searching for our flashlights. The battery powered lantern had no batteries, the 2 flashlights in the garage were burned out. We got our emergency hand cracked/solar powered radio-flashlight out. The crank part had been broken off, but it still had a slight charge from being near the window 2 weeks ago during conference (its our only radio in the house too).
This got me thinking. How prepared are we if the power went out for a while. I googled "How to survive a power outage in the winter." I came across several really good articles.
This one was my favorite. It talked about the recent ice storms back east. It shared problems people had and what they wished they would have had. It gave me several good ideas. Please take a moment and read it.
As Josh and I talked in the dark that night of the power outage, we realized we really needed to find a way to keep our family warm in winter when the power goes out. I have started comparing portable heaters online. We are going to make buying one of these a priority. The article also got me thinking about batteries, fuel, water and having cash on hand. I'm going today to go buy batteries for our flashlights.
So what will you all do to keep warm if (when) the power goes out? Do you know where your flashlights are? I would love to hear your responses? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Good to be thinking about it all .this past january I joined an online group(of course) and I get emails every two weeks to help me to be prepared -- in all areas. 72 hour kids, emergencies such as yours, fire, 3 month storage etc. Anyway, it's called www.foodstoragemadeeasy.net
i think:) the newsletters I get are called babysteps....it's been good so that I don't have to think about being behind all the time -- it's just babysteps.:)
