A day trip to SLC

Josh heard on the radio that one of the original copies of the Declaration of Independence was on view at our State Capital building. We loaded up the family in the mini-van, picked up Josh's mother on the way and headed down to SLC. We were all very excited to see the newly refinished Capital building, but were overwhelmed at how many other people had the exact same idea we had. The line we were told was 3 hours long to spend 30 sec infront of the document. We looked at our kids and decided not to wait. We were able to stand about 15 feet away and get a picture. It did spark a great conversation with our older children about our nations founding fathers.

After a walk outside, we headed to the gateway downtown. We parked and hopped on trax to Temple square. We had heard about the Primary exhibit, "I am a child of God" at the Church's museum and decided to explore. We all loved it! It was a hands on exhibit that followed the lyrics of the song. They had a pretend baby nursery, and a dress up area with the baby Jesus. Lehi's dream was all set up with a rod to hold on to and the great spacious building and tree with pretend fruit you can pluck. They also had building blocks to build your own temple and markers to draw your own stained glass windows.

On our way back up north we stopped for Mexican at Su Casa in Bountiful. It turned out to be a fun day trip before school starts this week.
