Back to school barbeque

Today was our 3rd annual back to school barbecue in our back yard. We invite all the moms and kids on our street over at lunch time and have hot dogs, chips, fruit and salads. The kids look forward to this event as one last hurrah before they go back to school. For treat we each made our own homemade ice cream in a bag. In a sandwich size bag you put 1/2 c. whole milk, 2 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla and seal shut. Then put the small bag, ice & rock salt in a quart size bag. They shake for 5 min. Then throw away the bigger bag, give them a spoon, and they can enjoy their own ice cream. It was fun to see them all shaking their bags. It's sad to see summer coming to a end. We all commented today that this summer went very quickley. Now its time for back to school nights, early bed times, routines, and cooler weather.
